Russian Brunch at the Hume Hotel

NelsonRestaurants.com

Last weekend we decided on a whim to go out for lunch and picked the Hume Hotel restaurant.  We didn't know it, but that day they were doing a Russian themed brunch until 2pm.  We arrived at about 1:30pm, so there was just enough time left.  The food was great as usual, and we got to talk to some of the staff we hadn't seen in a while.  I don't know how often the Hume does a Russian brunch, but they should keep it a regular event.  It was a nice surprise and another great meal at the Hume in Nelson BC!

More Take Out from The Dock, Nelson BC

NelsonRestaurants.com

Our most recent Nelson restaurant experience was another take-out from the Dock restaurant at 569 Ward st, Nelson BC.  We ordered the family special, which is six pieces of fish with chips, cole slaw, and tartar sauce.  This is a good menu item for two adults and two young kids.  It was a last minute pick up after work, and it only took about 15 minutes to prepare while I waited.  We also added a side of onion rings to the order, but they do have more 'seafood' type side dishes that you could add to a main dish, not to mention more adventurous main seafood meals.

I noticed the Dock has a Tuesday eat in special for all you can eat fish and chips, which I believe was only $13.50 per person.  I also saw that they have some local ales available if you decide to eat in the restaurant.

If you are a fish and chips fan, you won't be disappointed by the Dock!

Leo's Pizza and Greek Taverna in Nelson BC

NelsonRestaurants.com

Last Friday night was the latest dine out night for the family, and we decided on Leo's because we haven't been there in a while.  It was a nice way to kick off the two week Spring Break.  We made our dinner reservation about a half hour before arriving and by the looks of it we got the last available table.

We've had great pizza at Leo's before, but this time we decided on a Greek platter for two, and pasta dishes for the kids.  If you're looking for pizza, Leo's does have a large selection.

The pasta meals were served in deep dishes and had been baked, with a solid layer of cheese on top and garlic bread on the side.  One feature of Leo's is that you can do half orders for pasta meals.  The kids also ordered Italian sodas, mango and lemon, which is a fun option to have beyond the regular list of sodas.

The Greek platter for two consisted of Greek salad, hummus, pita slices, baked potato slices, calamari, and rice rolls (I think that's it).  The food was all fresh and tasty.  Everything was served in what I would say is a quicker timeframe than most restaurants, and the waitress was very friendly and helpful.

For dessert, we ordered baklava, a Black Forest cake slice, and a double Chocolate cake slice.  Leo's has quite a list of cakes to choose from.  The dessert was a nice cap to the meal.  For those who like a drink with their meal, Leo's has a good selection of wines and beers to choose from.

Leo's is located at 409 Kootenay st. in Nelson BC, about a half block below Baker st.  Phone for reservations: 250-353-3232

Panago takeout in Nelson BC

NelsonRestaurants.com

Last week the family needed a quick meal for after work and school activities.  We decided on pizza, which we usually get from Canadian 2 for 1 or Panago.  This time we chose Panago, but both restaurants do good pizza takeouts.

Two large pizzas, one a Hawaiian and one a cheese/pepperoni, came to just under $30.  They were ready when I arrived to pick them up, and you also get one dipping sauce or shaker with each pizza.  We chose the Blue Cheese and the Jalapeno Ranch, but there are more to pick.  For a list of all of them, visit this site.  Aside from taking out, Panago also has tables in the restaurant if you want to eat in.

Next time we do a takeout there, I think I'll try some of their chicken wings too.

Panago is located at 216 Anderson St in Nelson, BC.  This is the highway through town, and they are across the street from Safeway.  Their phone number is (250) 310-0001, which also serves the Castlegar location.

New Year's brunch at Hume Hotel restaurant

NelsonRestaurants.com

On New Year's day we decided to book an 11am brunch at the Hume Hotel in Nelson BC.  We've had brunch at the Hume before and they always put on a good one.

We were able to get a table next to the window facing the highway through town, which is always a plus.  There was little waiting once we sat down, the food was all ready in the adjoining room, along with a short line-up of hungry Nelsonites and travellers.

What food was there?

Eggs Benedict, scrambled eggs, sausages, bacon, peach crepes, potato gems, sliced melons, waffles, berry topping with whip cream, salad, ribs, potatoes, potato salad, veggies, hummus and bread, pastries, juices, desserts, and I'm sure I'm forgetting a few things!  One item that ran out quickly was the green jello parfait, which I heard a lot of people asking for.

When we returned to the table, hot coffee was waiting and old plates were cleaned away quickly.  All in all the food tasted great and it was another successful outing to the Hume Hotel restaurant.  The staff were all friendly as usual.  A family meal where no one has to prepare anything or clean up is a great way to start a New Year, especially if you've done a lot of cooking and had visitors over Christmas.

The Best Western hotel on Baker st in Nelson BC also does a good brunch, but you may have to wait for Mother's Day for the next one!
