The Hume Hotel delivers - Pizza!

In the last couple years we have learned two things about the Hume Hotel restaurant in Nelson BC.

They deliver to your home, and they make pizza.

When they started to deliver it was a bit surprising for a hotel restaurant, but a good idea.  It was announced in ads but still kept pretty low key.  You can see their delivery car sometimes around Nelson.

The big secret was that the restaurant makes pizza, and it is some of the best pizza in town.  A few days ago we ordered a large cheese and a large ham and pineapple, and picked it up at the front desk (about $40 for the two).  Personally I'd prefer a pizza with some meats on it and more veggies, which they have, but I sometimes get outvoted in the household.  These pizzas were as tasty as usual, not too much dough and crust, and healthy amounts of toppings.  The way we found out that the Hume makes pizza was when we were eating in the restaurant one time and saw another table ordering one.  Next time you're at the Hume restaurant ask about their pizza menu.

We often eat at the Hume Hotel restaurant and I look forward to doing a post the next time we do so.

Other good pizza can be found in Nelson BC at Canadian 2 for 1 Pizza, Leo's, and Thor's Pizzeria, which will all have future postings here.

Dinner at the Outer Clove, Nelson BC

Tonight we did dinner at the Outer Clove in Nelson BC.  The restaurant is located at 536 Stanley street, half a block up from Baker street.  We decided to go out for dinner after soccer practice, and drove around until deciding on trying the Outer Clover, a place we've eaten before.  Often you need reservations for dinner once the weekend starts, but tonight we got in and were seated right away.  As the name implies, the food at the OC has a heavy bent towards garlic.

Ordering went quickly, however the restaurant had just filled up when we got there, and we ended up waiting about one hour before the meals arrived.  We had the baked garlic cloves with brie, bread, grapes and melon slices for an appetizer, which was great tasting and fresh.  The kids had pasta dishes which they enjoyed, and I tried the pumpkin spice garlic soup (a party in my mouth), the garlic cream soup (hearty), and the falafel wrap with veggies and banana peppers.  I haven't had falafel in years, so it was nice to try it again with the garlice flavour.

Other than the long wait for the food, everything else was great and the waitresses were nice.  But I have to say, one of the worst things about eating out is when you have to wait a long time for the order to arrive.  I'm sure this can happen in any restaurant from time to time, and I think this is the first time it's happened to us at the OC.  I know we will still be back again.

The OC always has a great atmosphere, with lots of chatter and a homey, casual interior.  If it's cold outside, try to get a table away from the doorway, because even with the double doors it can still be drafty.  There is local Nelson Brewing Co ale on tap, and be sure to try the garlic chip cookies, or a piece of garlic chocolate cake.

NelsonRestaurants.com begins!

After owning the domain NelsonRestaurants.com for a while now, we've decided to do something with it.

We will be bringing you short reviews of our family culinary outings to restaurants and food outlets in Nelson BC.  If you are visiting Nelson or live here, hopefully we will be able to provide some useful information on where to eat in Nelson BC.
