New China Restaurant in Nelson BC

NelsonRestaurants.com

In late November we decided to go out for dinner at New China restaurant in Nelson BC.  As the name implies, New China serves Chinese food and also has a smorgasbord.  Actually, to be more specific the food is labelled by the restaurant as 'Szechuan and Cantonese'.

From time to time we'll get a takeout from New China, but when the family goes out for dinner we don't normally do Chinese because one of our kids doesn't like Chinese food.  This time she was over at a friend's house for the evening, so this was our first chance in a long time to sit in at New China.

We were lucky to get a booth table right away, the weather that evening was bad (cold and snow) which probably kept many people outside town at home.  Also, there was a Nelson Leafs home game that night.  We decided to just have the smorgasbord along with a pot of Chinese tea.

The smorgasbord had all the standard fare you would expect at such a restaurant - ribs, chicken balls, chop suey, fried rice, almond chicken, ginger beef, salad, and a few more items.  The food was good and I did go back more than once to fill up my plate.  For dessert, there was assorted fruit (melon pieces), jello, and carrot cake.  Whenever an item got low a worker was quick to come out and fill it up again.  The waitresses were friendly and attentive.

All in all it was a good meal out and I hope not to let as much time pass before we go back there again.  Aside from the smorgasbord, the restaurant also has a menu if you just want to pick specific items, or dinner for 2, dinner for 4, etc.  The restaurant is located at 702 Vernon Street, just one block off Baker st and across from the Grand Hotel.
