We did a pizza takeout from Thors Pizzeria in Nelson BC last weekend. It was a large pizza, half Hawaiian and half Greek. I stopped in to pick it up and had to wait a few extra minutes. It was no problem since I knew I would be a little early.
Thors is a small restaurant with an open kitchen concept in the back that is mostly visible from the ordering counter. You can see they use a lot of fresh ingredients, and you can watch them build the pizzas. There are a few small tables if you want to eat in, and some stools and countertops facing the outside street so you can look outside while you eat.
In addition to pizza, Thors also has flatbreads, pasta bowls, paninis, ciabattas, and chicken wings. There is a circular heated pizza display right at the front counter that is always ready for people who want to stop in and order by the slice. The menus are displayed on the walls in hand-written chalk on chalkboards. The feel of Thors is that it's a funky Nelson pizza place.
One interesting thing I discovered on this trip is that if you need to use the washroom, you have to walk through the back area of the kitchen by the working staff. When you walk to the back of the restaurant to the washroom door, you expect to enter a small washroom, but instead you are in the rear kitchen and need to walk to the back of the building.
Thors has become a well-known pizza place in Nelson over the years, as there have been previous restaurants in this location (though I can't remember any of their names right now). You can't go wrong with a fresh pizza or ciabatta from Thors.
